The
South Yorkshire Local Transport
Plan is the five year transport
strategy for the County, which
aims to improve choice for travellers
and encourage the use of more environmentally
friendly forms of transport. A
key target in the LTP is to contain
traffic at 1999 levels over the
next 5 years.

now available. The route along the towpath of the South Yorkshire Navigation

Walking - various leaflets are available from the Tourist Information
Centre giving details of walks in and around Rotherham. These include
way marked circular walks through countryside and woodland as well as
Town Centre trails highlighting the history and heritage of the Town.
The Rotherham Walking Festival includes walks, trails and events to suit
a whole range of interests, ages and abilities. For more information
contact the Tourist Information Centre on 01709 835904.
Car Sharing - to reduce the number of single car occupant journeys
to and from our town and city centres and major work sites we are encouraging
major employers or groups of smaller employers to introduce car share
schemes. These schemes try to match staff who live close to one another
and work in the same building or area and who would be willing to share
a car for the journey to and from work. Car sharing need not be every
day but can be arranged when it is convenient for the car sharers. Every
little bit helps. Car share can cut travel and parking costs and gives
people an opportunity to socialise. For more information about these
sorts of schemes contact the Transportation Unit at Rotherham Borough
Council on 01709 822186.
Be TravelWise and think about how you make your next journey. The TravelWise
campaign aims to promote the benefits of using more environmentally friendly
means of transport. For more information, pick up a TravelWise leaflet
from the Travel Information Centre or contact the South Yorkshire TravelWise
co-ordinator on 0114 221 1530.
