Rotherham Town Centre Management

During recent years Town Centre Management has played an increasingly important role in driving the commercial success of towns and cities across the country.

Effective Town Centre Management is all about forging genuine and effective partnerships between key private and public sector parties, which share aspirations expertise and resources. The benefit of this approach is that it allows for joint initiatives, which focus on fundamental issues, ranging from environmental improvements, cleanliness, events, crime reduction and marketing, to policy developments that will strategically enhance the overall evolution of our town centres.

Rotherham Town Centre Management works with principle retail and leisure operators, property and landowners and the statutory agencies to tackle some of the problems affecting the urban fabric of the town. These include lack of investment in the physical infrastructure, changing lifestyle and shopping habits, retail competition and changing patterns of employment and industry.

Rotherham is committed to an urban renaissance and is responding to these issues by focusing on Civic Pride, Urban Regeneration, Historic Conservation, Commercial Retail Enhancement and Town Centre investment. As part of this a number of initiatives have been developed:

•  Urban Renaissance Charter and Town Centre Master Plan

•  Detailed Marketing Strategy, raising profile and repositioning Rotherham as a good place to shop, live and work

•  Strong partnership & communication via forum meetings & newsletter

•  Targeting relevant retail & property events, conferences & media to ensure that Rotherham has a presence

•  Property searches and inward investment support

•  Identifying & targeting potential businesses that would do well to locate within the town

•  Clearly focused events & entertainment programme that drive footfall

•  Clearly focused advertising campaign that communicates core messages

•  Customer service initiatives

•  Environmental initiatives

•  Retail & evening economy radio link
