For the first time ever, Leeds is going to play host to a major new contest which aims to blaze a trail for Yorkshire across the UK. It will celebrate not just the beauty of women from the biggest county in England, but also the talent and diversity of the area.
The first annual “Miss Yorkshire” will be held in the city on the night of Sunday 21st October, 2012. It’ll take place at one of the most prestigious venues in Leeds, the o2 Academy; and promises to be a night of culture, diversity and sophistication.
The aim of the contest is more than a beauty pageant – organisers promise it will bring together communities from across Yorkshire to not only crown its winner but also to give a platform to many individuals who are striving to improve themselves above their circumstances.
The contest will also be supporting CLIC Sargent, the cancer charity for children and young people, which supports families from across Yorkshire, making a £5 donation from ever ticket sold. CLIC Sargent social care teams at the Leeds General Infirmary and Sheffield Children’s Hospital includes key worker nurses, social workers and young persons social workers. Jo Warmington, Fundraising Manager for Yorkshire, commented ‘We’re delighted that Miss Yorkshire has chosen to support CLIC Sargent and the money raised through ticket sales and fundraising activities will help us to make a difference to the lives of children and young people with cancer’.
The selection process is much like a traditional beauty pageant, with several rounds, selecting the strongest entrees, however Miss Yorkshire aims to find the ultimate candidate with its business boot camp, in which business leaders and consultants are brought in to train and vet the finalists.
The competition is made of three rounds; Stage one: Hundreds of applicants are filtered to just 50. Stage two: 50 Finalists sent to Business Boot camp. Stage three: The final winner being crowned Miss Yorkshire receiving a £1,500 cash prize, one year’s modelling contract with Female One(F1) Model Agency www.f1modelagency.co.uk, One year’s supply of teeth whitening by Amazing White, Beauty products and a Portfolio (worth £800). The grand final will take place on 21st October 2012 at the o2 Academy, Leeds.
