LEADING South Yorkshire dementia charity Lost Chord is looking for a manager to open its eagerly awaited Rotherham town centre charity shop.

The organisation that provides vital interactive musical experiences for people living with dementia in care homes and day centres across the region and nationally is launching its first fundraising shop in Rotherham early in 2018.

“To make the shop truly successful and profitable we really do need somebody with strong retail experience to lead the operation professionally,” said Lost Chord Chief Executive Helena Muller.

“We are looking for somebody who will be responsible for achieving effective, efficient and profitable day to day operation, management and control of our shop.

“We will also want them to establish the Rotherham Shop as a centre to the community and to underpin an excellent reputation as a charity by maintaining and growing the quality of goods, services and professionalism.

“The person we are looking for will be qualified to at least NVQ Level 2 Retail or Customer Service and will have knowledge of volunteer recruitment and leading and developing a team.

“This is a major step forward for us as a charity and it is essential that we find a person who is committed to the ideals and aims of Lost Chord.”

At the same time the charity is also continuing to recruit volunteers for the new shop.

Supported by the professional shop manager, the volunteers will get involved in all aspects of shop work, including serving customers, sorting clothes, spotting premium items, pricing goods and creating window displays,” said Helena.

“This is a great way to become much more directly involved in the work of Lost Chord and help us to bring joy and happiness to people and their families living with dementia..

“We’re looking for people over the age of 18 who are friendly and approachable, have common sense, can use their own initiative and work as part of a team.

“It’d a great way of not just supporting Lost Chord and making new friends but also of gaining some retail experience for which we will be able to provide a reference to prospective employers.”
