Rotherham & District Model Engineering Society as part of their club activitiesrun a miniature railway giving train rides to both children and adults. Also the club gives guidance and help in anyone wishing to enter the hobby building models of all kinds. In order to help with running costs the club also hires out the facilities for birthday parties. The club is open to visitors Sundays and Wednesdays from 12.30 to 4.30 but train rides are only available Sundays and Wednesdays during school holidays. For further information see www.rdmes.co.uk.
Our club runs a miniature railway consisting of ground level 7 1/4 gauge and a raised 3 1/2, 5, and 7 1/4 gauge tracks. These are used by club members to run their model locomotives on. As part of the club activities to help with running costs we give public train rides for a small fee. Rides consist of twice round the large loop and twice round the smaller loop through the tunnels. This is a distance of about half a mile in total. Current fare is 80 pence a ride.
Running days are Sundays 12.30 to 4.30 in the summer and Wednesdays 12.30 to 4.30 in school holidays. Although these are the official running days we are on site throughout the year weather permitting so please visit us anyway and just browse around.
We also hire out the facilities for children's birthday parties. You would get two Gazebos wit tables and chairs to hold the food and full use of two trains ( one is a steam locomotive and the other a petrol hydraulic ). The fee covers full use of our facilities and as many train rides as the children want. We have basic toilet facilities on site and can provide hot water but you must supply your own food. There is also an ice cream parlor local to the track in the park. We have on site parking for cars entered from the very top end of the park. Birthday parties are limited to Sundays and Wednesdays during the school holidays.
